Polkadot Digest 17 May 2023
Polkadot Vault (formerly called Parity Signer) is open-source. You can view the code here: https://github.com/paritytech/parity-signer/

Suggestions are appreciated.
I wouldn't say it's a black box system. If you want, you can read the code here, compile it yourself and load it on to your phone - https://github.com/paritytech/parity-signer

Any plans for Hardware Wallet Intergration?
Don't think there's any HW wallets supported atm. Personally I'm using Parity Signer on an old phone, air gapped. But that's also quite involved to get up and running. (https://github.com/paritytech/parity-signer/releases/tag/v5.0.1) But to get it to work with ACA you need to add the network and the metadata, see https://metadata.parity.io/, if you're technical you can checkout their github project and locally run an update site for Acala.

Polkadot v0.9.0 has been released; upgrade priority is HIGH
You can run the polkadot.js/apps UI natively as an electron client. That's available from the releases page: https://github.com/polkadot-js/apps/releases For added security+confidence, you could connect this to a locally-run node instead of parity (or whoever)'s publicly run RPC nodes. If you want a cold wallet (i.e., offline, used for signing transactions, etc) you can use parity-signer

WARNING: Risk of losing funds, please do not use this Parity Signer ยท Issue #724
It isn't misleading in any way shape or form. The developer of the tool agrees that right now it should not be used. See their response here: https://github.com/paritytech/parity-signer/issues/680

anyone built a wallet extension?
The metamask version is quite complicated. You might find it easier to understand the polkadot version of the same thing: https://github.com/polkadot-js/extension/blob/master/packages/extension/src/content.ts

polkadot.js: How to check correctness of extrinsic for crowdloan contributions?
According to https://github.com/polkadot-js/extension/issues/671, this is a result of outdated metadata. Keeping metadata updated might help, but if that doesn't help, you have no chance but to trust the source.

There are benefits to installing Polkadot{.js} extension to your browser, even if you are not using it to store DOT or KSM. For instance, it blocks any scam sites it knows about automatically. https://github.com/polkadot-js/extension

Firefox Extension Issue
I'm new in Polkadot, and I created my account using the official polkadot{.js} extension in Firefox. I was able to create one and transfer funds from an exchange. Right now, I'm trying to send a token to my other account (controller), and tried to stake but both of them didn't work due to the extension issue.

Polkadot Digest 8 June 2021
There are several ways to store DOT and KSM besides directly in Polkadot-JS. Probably the most common and convenient is the Polkadot{.js} extension. https://github.com/polkadot-js/extension
