Recently replaced rofi lbonn on my qtile Wayland setup and it's fantastic.
  • What is your opinion of qtile?
    1 project | /r/qtile | 18 Sep 2022
I've tried i3, sway but just cannot see past my qtile wayland setup now and I'm running on the git version ( living on the edge ). Checkout my dotfiles 😍
  • Problem with assigning apps to groups (spotify and steam)
    1 project | /r/qtile | 17 Sep 2022
Yeah Spotify doesn't play nice so as well as the match line I have a hook to move it to the group and it works a treat . Should work with others too. See line 67 in this file https://github.com/justinesmithies/qtile-wayland-dotfiles/blob/master/.config/qtile/hooks.py

I don't know if looking at my config will help but it's worth a shot as I too recently shifted from a vimscript config to lua and I'm not lua expert but have managed to get most things working. Although there is definitely room for improvement. https://github.com/justinesmithies/qtile-wayland-dotfiles/tree/master/.config/nvim

  • WM / DE recommendation?

Take a look at Qtile thy have a fair selection of window layout options here and of course it's written in Python so totally hackable by yourself too if need be. You can also run it under X or as I do run it under Wayland as there is also Xwayland support too. I use the git master version to catch the latest features. My dot files are here if it helps ?

  • Popularity of Qtile
    1 project | /r/qtile | 19 Jan 2022
I absolutely love Qtile and recently switched from X to full on Wayland as shown in my dots here. Personally I think a lot of folk expect it all to just work and are not up for reading docs or learning by trial and error or better still by helping to develop and or bug test. Qtile really isn't difficult to work with and expand and there are loads of people out there willing to help new users if they look in the right places.

  • App with [app_id = null]
    1 project | /r/swaywm | 17 Dec 2021
What I do is make a desktop file to launch the app using the terminal with the class option set. Under Sway it then shows up as the app_id and you can then float or whatever you wish to do with it. An example is here from my dotfiles
  • [ Waybar ] Scratchpad indicator
    1 project | /r/swaywm | 11 Dec 2021
Made a scratchpad indicator with tooltip contents for Waybar. It's not perfect but it works for me. scratchpad-indicator.sh
