Ask HN: What Underrated Open Source Project Deserves More Recognition?
This has been posted a few times already, but I cannot tell you how life changing Paperless NGX is for organizing PDFs. As someone who wrangles all of the insurance and bills for my house, this open source software is so damn good.
https://docs.paperless-ngx.com/
I maintain Bash script to quickly set it up locally on Linux with Podman. Give it a spin if you want to kick the tires.

Paperless-Ngx v2.0.0
If anyone is looking to kick the tires of Paperless NGX quickly, check out my little pet project [1] for running it with Podman. I use it every week to scan papers from my Brother ADS2800w which will SFTP the PDFs into a directory for Paperless NGX to consume.
I just updated my install to v2.0.0 with a simple podman pull and a systemctl restart of my paperless pod and everything looks great. Hats off to the contributors of the project. Every update, even major ones like this have been really smooth.

A Clutter-Free Life: Going Paperless with Paperless-Ngx
If you are looking to quickly setup Paperless-NGX check out my little side project https://github.com/jdoss/ppngx. It will setup everything you need to run Paperless-NGX (PostgreSQL, Redis, Tika, Gotenberg, PaperlessNGX, and SFTPGo) inside a Podman Pod on a Linux based system. You can optionally set it up to start on boot via systemd.
I run this locally on my workstation and send PDFs many times a week from Brother ADS2800w scanner via SFTP. Paperless NGX has reduced my home office paper piles to almost zero. It is a fantastic open source project and I am very thankful it exists.

Docker is dead? Podman – an alternative tool?
I only use Podman for my workloads these days. Docker was always a headache for me on Linux. Podman allows me to quickly do whatever I want with containers and I can use systemd or a simple bash script to easily create services on my workstation or in production with Nomad with https://github.com/hashicorp/nomad-driver-podman
I am super thankful for the team of developers that work on Podman. It has really come a long way since 2.0 and they are very responsive to issues in my experiences. If you are using Linux as your daily driver and you use Containers give Podman a try. Here are some examples of the things I have done with Podman.

What Are Your Most Used Self Hosted Applications?
I setup https://paperless-ngx.readthedocs.io/en/latest/ with a Brother ads2800w scanner and I no longer have a pile of paper mail sitting by my desk. I just scan it, tag it in Paperless-ngx, and then shred it. I just pushed up my script here if anyone wants to give this a try:
https://github.com/jdoss/ppngx
I will most likely move this to a Hashicorp Nomad job on my home server once I find the time.

I tried and failed to automate my life
https://grocy.info/ should be able to do this for maintenance jobs.
It never quite worked for me either though.
Things that do work:

Changing the Android captive portal page
I've been using the homeassistant shopping list integration but I'm planing to switch to "Specifically Clementines" [1] it's not as complete as grocy [2] but that's a feature. My partner will add to a list, not use an inventory managment system.

Asset Management for family?
I've ran Snip-IT and PartKeepr before and they are both good. I've also ran a highly customized version of grocy where I stripped out all the unnecessary food-specific features and just repurposed the inventory, lists, and barcode scanning features to be run on the built-in API server. Worked great too, but definitely not a viable option for general users.

Questions: group products in the basket, quantity conversion, userentities
Guess that's related to automatically adding missing recipe ingredients - not yet possible, tracked in #1890.
