What should I do with this WII?
Not64 is a huge improvement and the grand majority of games run just fine, modmii bundles the out of date wii64 and I don’t know why, heaps of games don’t work. Just download the last release from GitHub https://github.com/extremscorner/not64/releases

Console modding shouldn't be an afterthought!
Yeah, I know what you mean. There are certain consoles I haven't hacked yet just because the process seems more involved than I have the time or motivation for right now (XBox 360, for example), but I bought both my PSP and my Wii specifically because of what they could do when hacked (and the Wii has gotten even better, now that not64 has finally fixed the 'exploding geometry' problem that debilitated so many games before).

My top 20 games for 2020.
Personally, I do both. I've never gotten rid of any system I've ever owned, and have about 9 of them set up at the moment, but I also like to hack any systems I can and use them as multi-systems (the Wii is super easy for that, and the Not64 emulator for it is much better than it used to be -- they got rid of the 'exploding geometry' issue in May, making many previously broken games playable without issue).

What CRT should I buy for the n64?
If I might add: using 240pTestSuite or something similar (there are specific hardwares to output a grid signal and the likes) is a good way to check for convergence issues or bad picture quality overall.

Sony KV-27FS320 pick up
The grid array you’re referring to is the 480p Test Suite and it’s available for several different consoles and Everdrives. There are several different test patterns in the suite that can help adjust the CRT’s geometry. I actually have your exact same model of Sony (love all the inputs) and have the geometry dialed in just right. You’re correct, you will need the original remote to get into the advance menu for geometry adjustment. IMPORTANT - Make sure to write down any numbers BEFORE you make adjustments just in case you need to revert back to them! The internet is your friend here, as there are several guides out there for making these adjustments in these menus. Good luck!

could someone help me? i want to calibrate this PV-DF2704 but i cannot find a potentiometer anywhere. is anyone familiar with these?
You need hardware that can run 240p test suite, for example a Wii with homebrew channel or an Everdrive cart for Snes. https://github.com/ArtemioUrbina/240pTestSuite

What are some of your favorite "underdog" consumer CRT's?
You can also affect geometry with thin magnets. My 32AX60 has 4 arrow( ^ ) magnets iirc, which I might adjust slightly. You can use one of the built-in test patterns on Toshiba's service menu(toggle with TV/Video while in Service Menu) while doing this adjusting... like the Toshiba dark background with white lines & dots grid, or the color bar grid in 240p Test Suite https://github.com/ArtemioUrbina/240pTestSuite/blob/master/240psuite/Wii/240pSuite/textures/color_grid.png I think the monoscope & convergence patterns were/are being added too to Wii so those might be better idk. But the color grid works well for adjusting side or corner convergence imo.

Abandoned Panasonic
Here, take a look: https://github.com/ArtemioUrbina/240pTestSuite
- THIS IS IT. This is as good as I can get the geometry as a novice
- Picked up a 27FS170 just to restore it. Pretty damn good geometry for a midrange set.
