For tech3 based stuff, maybe try Netradiant (forked from GtkRadiant), or more specifically its fork (!) NetRadiant Custom (https://github.com/Garux/netradiant-custom).

netradiant-custom is even better, I just don't use it because i'm far too accustomed to GtkR.

Level creation for quake 2.
I still use GtkRadiant or Netradiant-custom as Trenchbroom is just too different to what I'm used to. With that said TB does show promise.

Announcing Shalrath: A Quake map parsing library for Rust.
Shalrath is based on the map parsing functionality from Quarchitect, a Rust rewrite of the backend logic that powers the Qodot plugin for the Godot game engine, allowing users to import textures, geometry and entities from Quake-derived map and WAD formats for use in Godot scenes.
