New luxtorpeda-dev Client Release (Version 63)
Switch to using Steam Linux Runtime - Sniper for the built engines. This provides newer tooling for builds, which should make future development easier, for example being able to build qt 5.15 and have gcc 10 available. The 100+ engines have been re-built. Note that previous clients should still work on the older soldier, but any new updates will only happen to sniper (this client and above). If you run into any issues with the engines, please open a new issue in the packages repo.

"Sam & Max Hit the Road"s source port added to Luxtorpeda for Steam
What happened here is the Luxtorpeda is now allowing normal ScummVM to launch this game (this commit). I think before you needed the separate Roberta layer to do this.

troubleshooting save syncing between linux desktop and steam deck (openMW)
I'm the maintainer of luxtorpeda-dev. It currently does not support cloud saves, but it's something that I'm working on (you can see progress as I make it here: https://github.com/luxtorpeda-dev/packages/issues/645)

Master of Orion
I believe I tried this a year or 2 ago but I've always favored https://gitlab.com/Tapani_/1oom as I feel it delivers the closest experience to the original - also I prefer the old pixel graphics.
-
MoO 1 - I can't believe I forgot about this game!
https://gitlab.com/Tapani_/1oom is the starting point if you want to play exactly the original MOO1 with original graphics but with some bugs fixed and somewhat improved experience.

Remnants of the Precursors - Review
BTW, with regards to the question "which one would it be" when it comes to MOO1 games- you're forgetting 1oom exists. You can find it here: https://gitlab.com/KilgoreTroutMaskReplicant/1oom or maybe some more recent forks are here: https://gitlab.com/Tapani_/1oom It is same exact MOO1 except it runs natively on other OSes and has some bugs fixed.

I received a copy of the MOO strategy guide today. I think my wife ordered it accidentally. I guess I’m going to deep dive Master of Orion this weekend now
It's definitely portable. There is Linux support, but you'll need to compile it yourself. You can clone from this repo. The executable will be called 1oom_cmdline.

Help Compiling 1oom (The original Master of Orion)
Killgore Trout Mask Replicant is unfortunately gone, he finished this project and disappeared. If you are looking for latest code, Tapani is the most active fork, so you might want to try that. https://gitlab.com/Tapani_/1oom

This one is for you, Dave.
Other than that, there's 1oom (https://gitlab.com/Tapani_/1oom) which is MOO1 with some bugfixes and quality of life improvements.
