With InThe.AM shutting down are there any alternatives that anyone can suggest
I just found out that InThe.AM was shutting down (https://github.com/coddingtonbear/inthe.am/discussions/427). It looks like there was a somewhat attempt to self host it but did not seem to get completed (https://github.com/coddingtonbear/inthe.am/issues/291)?

Show HN: A TaskWarrior client for mobile, in flutter
Looks like a self-hosted taskserver is the way now: https://github.com/coddingtonbear/inthe.am :
> Note:: Inthe.AM will be shutting down on January 1st, 2024. See #427 for more informaion.
Looks like there are a number of ways to sync over just git now?

Task management at emacs org-mode level in neovim
Not much to say, it's a {https://github.com/GothenburgBitFactory/taskwarrior}(command line utility for task management) with a lot of features. I like it because I tend to spend more time on desktop than mobile, although there are a {https://github.com/bgregos/foreground}(couple) of {https://f-droid.org/es/packages/kvj.taskw/}(apps) for Android users. It allows synchronization between devices by setting up your own {https://taskwarrior.org/docs/taskserver/setup/}(taskserver) or using {https://inthe.am/}(third party tools).

Exploring Taskwarrior. What options are there for iOS/iPadOS?
I imagine the google login is if you want them to host your instance of inthe.am. The taskwarrior portal says this is GPL and it has its own github (so it you want to self host I imagine you could try).

inthe.am "Unable to acquire lock" Chronic Error on Sync
I've been trying, without success, to sync my local instance of Taskwarrior to my inthe.am account for the past several days.

Recurring task interval sync issue with inthe.am
I read somewhere that inthe.am uses older version of taskserver (their gitgub?) and at one point certain recurrance periods were not possible to sync, but they said that when you changed them to something compatible sync should be going fine.

Do not share your taskd.credentials publicly
Please do not share your taskd.credentials. The taskd 1.1.0 process does not validate PEM files against your account. Any PEM files that can be used to access the server, can be used with any taskd.credentials to access that account. This applies especially to inthe.am and FreeCinc, where anyone can easily get a valid set of PEM files, and access your account if you post your taskd.credentials publicly.

Task sync, is task.credentials a private field?
I just set up task syncing using inthe.am which adds a few fields to my taskrc. I normally track my taskrc in a git repo with the rest of my dotfiles.

How do you handle shopping, purchase or grocery lists ?
to view a list of only the grocery store items. I sync my task list to https://inthe.am/ and have it available on my phone.

Show HN: Heynote – A Dedicated Scratchpad for Developers
I wrote a small Ruby TUI which works like this called Rodo (Ruby Todos). Pressing CTRL+t will get you a new Todo list (it's just markdown) at the top of a file.

A plain-text file format for todos and check lists
I am almost using this format for my markdown todo app written in Ruby:
https://github.com/coezbek/rodo
Differences:
I use unicode symbols such as ⌛ or for paused or priority items.
I use dash for obsolete/canceled items. I find this more in line with bullet journal which inspired the development of Rodo.
I do use markdown bullet lists.

Nice! I also have this pain of the file losing shape quickly. My take is to have a a CLI tool to "carry over" all todos which aren't solved into a new heading. This way the old/resolved items are moved to the back/lower in the file.
I call it Rodo (Todos in Ruby): https://github.com/coezbek/rodo
It uses Markdown for syntax.

My productivity app for the past 12 years has been a single .txt file
Definitely true, but sometimes the lack of sane tooling makes it harder to follow rituals. I used to use the same format as the OP in a text editor, but struggled with the daily grind of copying items around and carrying over todos from the last day. Paper is much better for this, but messy (even with scanning).
In the end I wrote a small tool to assist with starting each day with a blank journal and all remaining items from the last day. Syntax is primarily markdown.

Note Taking in 2021
I have recently developed my own terminal-based UI for day journalling and todo/task tracking [1] in markdown files because I was sick of rearranging todos in other tools and just needed something which provides a standard template for each day (journal, high priority, todos of the day).
The main advantage is that you can "migrate" all unfinished todos to a new page/day and thus get a clean start each day. This idea comes from bullet journalling.
To get it done I had to dig a bit into ncurses, which turned out more interesting than I thought. For instance, Windows Terminal just gained support for bracketed paste a couple of months ago and my tool supports it.
Long term I would like to add generated views (for instance: last year this time one of your highlights was...) and support recurring tasks to be inserted into he daily log.
