Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Bit banging a 3.5" Floppy Drive
Take a look at the Greaseweazle https://github.com/keirf/greaseweazle to see what a really high-end solution in this space looks like. It's intended as a from-scratch alternative to the beter known KryoFlux.

Everything I know about floppy disks
If you get yourself a greaseweazle (or have an stm32 blue pill laying around) it will allow you to create a disk image of the disks over usb

5.25“ Floppy Disk Imaging Manual (2018) [pdf]
Seems to use an older, non-openhardware solution.
These days, there's GreaseWeazle[0], setting the standard.

Backing up a few disks
Any PC floppy drive (they shipped in large numbers, so not expensive or hard to find), connected with GreaseWeazle.
- Is there an easy solution to making copies of a Floppy?

A Multi-Format Cross-Platform Floppy for 5.25“ Floppy Day
Note that the SCP raw flux format can be read/written with the open source GreaseWeazle[0].

Help to open a file on amiga 500+
Get a GreaseWeazle. They are cheap and well worth the hassle.

Looking for Roland + vintage computing + floppy drive enthusiasts
The version of the FluxEngine binary which understands Roland disks is here: (Windows binaries, Mac binaries forthcoming) https://github.com/davidgiven/fluxengine/actions/runs/5685745221 (look down in Artifacts)

Given it was ported only 4 years ago via replicas an emulators, and this is the only original machine to surface in 20+ years, i think i'm the only person to run BASIC3 on a real original RCA MS2000
Binaries should show up here, eventually. https://github.com/davidgiven/fluxengine/actions/runs/4898665082

What is the newest laptop with internal floppy drive?
If you get a flux-level reader/writer like a Greaseweazle, and if you're interested, could you file a ticket at https://github.com/davidgiven/fluxengine? If the Ensoniq uses a weird format then that sounds like something that I should add support for in FluxEngine. Then you'd be able to use any machine with USB support (and wouldn't need to use Omniflop).

Is it possible to rip an Apple 2 disk with a Greaseweazle and an IBM HD 5.25" drive?
I'm not sure about the Greaseweazle software, but fluxengine supports the Greaseweazle device and allows reading and writing Apple II disks.
-
Picked up this little beauty today! I know very little about it but it looks awesome!
Also: ooh, 4x5.25" disks! A cursory look at the disk controller suggests it's a variation on the standard IBM scheme. If you've got a GreaseWeazle or Fluxengine (and the Cortex disk drive) file a bug here: https://github.com/davidgiven/fluxengine and I'll see about adding a profile to allow reading and writing disks. It should be trivial.

Finally whipped up a printer cable for my Tandy 102 (Model 100)
If you've got the hardware, file a bug at https://github.com/davidgiven/fluxengine/issues/new and I'll see what I can do.

Help with non-standard floppy formats.
Your options to make these are: (a) get an old computer which still has an FDC; (b) get a Greaseweazle; (c) get a FluxEngine (disclaimer: I made this: https://cowlark.com/fluxengine). If you go for (a) you probably want Windows 95 and Microsoft's DMF software. For (b) or (c) you probably want to get my FluxEngine client, which works with both types of hardware. This will let you write IBM disks. Unfortunately DMF isn't supported yet but it should be trivial to add. If you go this route, please file a bug and I'll do it? https://github.com/davidgiven/fluxengine/issues/new

1st power on test of a pair of Shugart 8 inch drives ( SA801 and SA850). No magic smoke is a good sign!
Ooh, someone mentioned my name! It's actually pretty easy to connect an 8" drive to a flux-level capture device like a GreaseWeazle or my FluxEngine. I support decoding a bunch of 8" formats, including hard-sectored ones, and can write TI DS990 8" disks. If you can get hold of a flux capture, file an issue on the FluxEngine github page and I'll have a look at doing an encoder and decoder for the format: https://github.com/davidgiven/fluxengine/issues/new
