Tell HN: It looks like all Bitcoin hardware wallets can phone home
> Show me an actually malicious hardware wallet that becaves as you've described, and you'll have made your point.
I'm not the OP and although I agree with you, you may be interested in the corollary for a "stronger" attack than OP defined:

Constructing such an airgapped hardware wallet is as trivial as a raspberry pi running a patched bitcoin client. In my opinion the more realistic construction than a that of "Reflections in Trusting Trust".

btcrecover VS walletlib - a user suggested alternative
2 projects | 13 Dec 2021
Once you have the hash cracked, it doesn't solve the issue of actually opening the wallet and determining what coin/network the wallet belongs to. Walletlib can dump the contents of various wallet files and attempt to discern what coins are in the wallet, or at least provide a start.
What are some alternatives?
bitcoin-recover-privkey - Proof of concept of bitcoin private key recovery using weak ECDSA signatures
btcrecover - BTCRecover is an open source wallet password and seed recovery tool. For seed based recovery, this is primarily useful in situations where you have lost/forgotten parts of your mnemonic, or have made an error transcribing it. (So you are either seeing an empty wallet or gettign an error that your seed is invalid) For wallet password or passphrase recovery, it is primarily useful if you have a reasonable idea about what your password might be.
