Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

So you're using a weird language

I'm doing a similar trawl. So far Julia is looking like the language to beat.

Lots of good entries, I'll add a few that haven't been mentioned yet:
- ncdu, to find out which files and folders take up most of the disk space
- julia, because scientific programming was never so fun and fast
- midnight commander, because a TUI implementing Norton Commander dual-pane view is so useful!
- lazarus, because creating multi-platform desktop apps couldn't be simpler

Julia 1.8 has been released
8 projects | news.ycombinator.com | 18 Aug 2022
some of the error messages are about to get much better (see https://github.com/JuliaLang/julia/pull/46372).
I find Julia to be pretty good for interactive work, but there definitely are some rough edges that still need smoothing.

A language without operators

If you think having characters like √ is a good idea, try playing around with Julia. You could also look at APL, but that comes with a bunch of other changes to ways of thinking about programming, whereas I think Julia will look more familiar, but with more characters.
Julia v1.8 Release Notes

Release is a process, not a single instant, so "hasn't been released yet" depends on which point in this process you like to call a "release". There is a non-rc release tag on github . The binaries are not available for download (yet), so I assume that is your requirement for the "release", correct?
