What good are home servers for?
Learn, host, experience. We use home servers to build a lab, run various solutions to learn how the software works (prepare for a certification), to host/serve services for private/home use. https://github.com/kahun/awesome-sysadmin is another link to share.

Things to run to “simulate” an enterprise IT.
You can implement all this using open source elements. Here's a nice list of things you could use to deploy these.

What's the best software to use on a home built nas?
Virtualize your home server by using XCP-NG, Proxmox, VMware ESXi, or any Linux with KVM/QEMU. With the hypervisor, you can host many other services aside to home NAS, such as Plex, Pihole, HomeAssistant, etc. More services to run you can find at https://github.com/awesome-selfhosted/awesome-selfhosted and https://github.com/kahun/awesome-sysadmin

I got an hp elitedesk g1. Is it viable?
Not aware of running a Minecraft server (worth a try) but for sure you can host a website, file server (Nextcloud), VPN (Wireguard), and many other services from awesome-sysadmin and awesome-selfhosted you'd find useful serving for your home.

Plex-Debrid: LG WebOS Plex app not working with Dolby Vision
And yeah, sure! It's a tool I found on github (https://github.com/itsToggle/plex_debrid), it lets you stream movies and shows via Plex in any quality you like. The github page has very detailed instructions so if you're interested take a look!
I just followed the tutorial (https://github.com/itsToggle/plex_debrid) step by step, the only thing I changed was the regex for the versions to prioritize HDR and DV content.

This is literally me.
That’s the thing though, you don’t need it. I have 55tb in my server, but I recently found Plex-Debrid. It connects straight into Plex, your shows and movies appear just like any local ones, it syncs back to your Trakt collection, and it takes up absolutely no space. My storage is now 36% full compared to the 70%ish it was before. You can still download the ones you really want to have a copy of, but there’s really no need for it this way. Oh, and requesting is super easy. Go to the Discover section of Plex, search for your show, add it to your watchlist, and that’s it. Within about 30 seconds the entire show is in Plex and ready to watch.
- ILPT Request-can’t afford streaming services anymore so I want to set up one of those home server deals for TV & movies. Any good tips on where to go to do this?
