For the SDL2 mixer library, I used: https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL_mixer/releases/tag/release-2.6.3 and downloaded SDL2_mixer-devel-2.6.3-VC.zip

How to load MIDI soundfonts in SDL_mixer 2.0.4?
The GitHub repository says you need to set the SDL_SOUNDFONTS environment variable to a soundfont. I've tried this and it doesn't work. I also tried setting the soundfont in my own program using Mix_Set_SoundFonts(). This doesn't work either. Not with absolute paths or relative paths passed into the function.
What are some alternatives?
