NTR_Launcher VS twlmenu-extras

Really old R4 cards that used the DS Phat/Lite icon data exploit don't even appear on the 3DS or DSi homescreen, though NTR Launcher can make some of them work.

You could try ntr launcher. This should let you use your flashcard on your 3ds.

On 3DS as I've said twice now you'll need to install CFW if you haven't already. If it doesn't show up on the HOME Menu (I don't think it will) even with CFW you'll then need to install NTR Launcher or TWiLight Menu++, then load your cart from one of those.

If you want to skip all the button pressing and launch the R4 right from the HOME menu, you should get NTR Launcher. Will place an icon on the HOME menu that instantly boots the Slot-1 card.

You can find NTR Launcher here. Grab the latest release (it should be called NTR_Launcher_v2_5.zip) then copy all files inside the zip file into your 3DS SD card. Then install the .cia file with FBI, just like you'd install any other CIA file.

Yes, it will work. Even older flashcarts that are blocked on 3DS can be made to work on a hacked console using NTR_Launcher (probably not necessary though).

Older flashcarts are blocked from booting on 3DS by Nintendo. You can get it working by hacking your 3DS and running NTR_Launcher.

Just use a theme for twilight menu. You can’t change language of stock firmware on DSi.

There’s hiyacfw, which is like stock firmware, but it’s more tedious to put games on it (have to manually install them) and does not work well with larger SD cards formatted to fat32. I would recommend checking out themes if you haven’t already.

"put my roms on the start screen instead of inside the folders" there's your answer - instead of copying the .nds files inside the roms/nds folder, just copy them straight to the sd. Nothing is stopping you from doing that :). As far as themes are concerned - https://skins.ds-homebrew.com/

You can't change the arrangement of the icons on a grid. But you can add your own themes. https://skins.ds-homebrew.com/

Another thing worth noting is that TWiLight Menu++ updates a lot and has improved a lot over the years, so you may want to try updating it and see if you like the new version more. Depending on how outdated you were it may be a big improvement. There are also various skins you can use (or make your own) to change the look.
