I've spent the last two years developing a free motion capture tool in Unreal Engine. Skip to the end to see how it looks now!
You can see a list of recommended hardware here:https://github.com/Megasteakman/MegaMocapVR/wiki
- Made a Virtual Puppet controlled with Vive controllers and a tracker
- VR Pose Estimation from 3 trackers (including procedural locomotion)

Cheap MO Cap? is that even a thing?
VRMocap: A VR-based system. I haven't actually tried this one because it requires Vive tracker pucks, which I don't have, but it looks like the most fully-featured inexpensive option.

Any ghetto Mo'Cap solutions?
If you have access to VR hardware, you could try VRMocap.

Can anyone recommend a cheap way to motion capture with unity?
Not sure if it's still active, but you could check out ViRe: https://github.com/TrackLab/ViRe

ViRe: Another VR system. Only tracks head and hand positions, but that means you can use it with a basic VR system. Results are a bit janky, but useable. If you need more than the very limited head/hand tracking, you'll have to supplement it with another animation source.

I used Unity to create a free, open source VR motion capture system! If you need to record animations, and have a VR system, you can now use this program (ViRe) to record movements!
Or if you want the download directly, here is the GitHub: https://github.com/TrackLab/ViRe
