HP Reverb G2 (2023) Revive and other External Games
You want this version of revive https://github.com/LibreVR/Revive/releases/tag/3.0.0 Note that compatibility varies, some games just don't work and there's not much that can be done about that as far as I know. This is the reddit post I read that led me to the files when I searched https://www.reddit.com/r/HPReverb/comments/ufq8ti/issues_with_revive_nothing_plays/ and this one too https://www.reddit.com/r/HPReverb/comments/ktyj6b/revive_revivexr_amazing_performance_on_g2_in/

is it worth getting a valve index in 2023? The valve index 2 will be announced soon but that means it might not be released until late 2024. I currently have a oculus rift s and I’m not interested in getting the quest 2 or the quest 3 when it comes out
If you do end up switching, don't forget to check out Revive, a piece of software which lets you play Oculus PCVR games through SteamVR.

found a gear vr in the attic, I have a note 20 ultra (doubt it will fit) and a s22+, what are my options?
I recently got a Gear VR (~15 USD) and I had my old S9 stored in the drawer. It was a better option for my usage (3D/regular movies and PC VR with Xbox gamepad) than buying a Quest 2 (~620 USD in my country). An incredible "cinema" experience and I can watch my movies before sleep without disturbing my wife. I am using the developer mode on the Gear APP and SKYBOX VR Video Player (you can get the apk, since the Oculus App no longer enables login to access the store).

thinking about buying gear VR
I am using most for 3d movies with SKYBOX VR and regular movies with Netflix. For games, I installed Batman Arkham VR (with an Xbox gamepad) and it is working great with the old version of ALVR (resolution at 150% for better quality), I did not like it on the MS Flight Simulator but I will try it on Automobilista 2.
- newbie pcvr with gear vr
- Meta no longer supports Oculus Go but you can still use it as a PC VR headset with the help of VRidge streaming (it’s 30% off until 3rd October with code SPOOKY2022). I’m putting a guide on how to install VRidge on Go in the comments.

Virtual desktop on steam or oculus store?
ALVR is a free and open source alternative to VD, they do the same thing. Though I have no personal experience with it. Until you get software update 28 for your oculus headset (which includes Oculus own virtual desktop functionality), ALVR is the only free option. VD costs I think 15 or 20 dollars.
