The Item Upgrade Mod Pack allows Cromwell and Cespenar to upgrade more items for you. Half of them are conveniences, the other half try to prop up weapon categories that are "weak" by comparison (e.g., maces and clubs). (by Pocket-Plane-Group)

Why aren't there good longbows in BG2?
There already are plenty of mods for this. SoD2BG2 does a bit, bringing IWD longbows like Sseth into BG2 (basically a longbow Tuigan), and an upgrade to the SoD Bow of the Banshee (+4, 20% chance of 4d4 damage party-safe banshee wail on hit). The Item Upgrade Mod has Teleomortis, a +4 infinite ammo bow (it also has throwing spears, which are cool). It also lets you upgrade the ToB infinite quivers to +3, which helps slings/xbows/shortbows as well, but is still useful to longbows.

Are there any weapon expansion mods
Forgotten Armament and Underrepresented Items are both great mods. They do a lot to make different weapon groups more viable, so taking halberd or bastard sword proficiency feels like a better option.

BGII EE essential mods
For item mods, I like Forgotten Armament and Underrepresented Items, which port items from NWN2 and Icewind Dale, respectively. Good for fleshing out certain weapon categories that are otherwise a little sparse (clubs, bastard swords, etc).

When comparing Item_Upgrade and Under-Respresented_Items you can also consider the following projects:
SoD-to-BG2EE-Item-Upgrade - Imports more Siege of Dragonspear items into logical (to me at least) locations in BG2:EE during the Shadows of Amn campaign. They are attainable in a variety of ways – quest rewards, drops from enemies killed, shops, and containers.
