EDDI as a plugin for VA which gives you access to loads of variables and statuses within VA to build commands with. For example {BOOL:Status lights on} would tell you if vehicle lights are on or off. EDEngineer lets you pick what engineering you want to do from a list, and then it looks at your inventory and maintains a "shopping list" of materials you need to get for the engineering you want to do.

I'd also recommend using EDEngineer to specify which engineering upgrades you're going for, because EDEngineer will generate you a shopping list of precisely which materials you need (and the list updates itself in real time as you gather mats).
