Daily General Discussion - May 20, 2023
I have been using the free version of this for a while because it works on my smartwatch while the Google one doesn't (or didn't Last time I checked) https://github.com/jamie-mh/AuthenticatorPro

Google Authenticator update is not e2e encrypted?
Personally I use authenticator pro cause it looks nicer while having the same features. Works on wear os too (can't say I use that tho)

Google Online Security Blog: Google Authenticator now supports Google Account synchronization
I recently switched from Aegis to Authenticator Pro. Both are free and open source, I've personally found Authenticator Pro to be a better experience.

Which are your favourite foss apps that are yet to get Material you treatment ?
Best foss YT client no doubt, it plays every yt video with rare crashes, Libretube is best UI wise and have MU but it can't play every yt video, so it this app in MU will be bliss :) * Tasks.org apparently dev of this app tried to implement MU but i think he said, due to code languge it is not possible * Aegis/Authenticator Pro Both are best 2fa apps there is no doubt but i prefer Authenticator pro for it's more features and seamless backup...Dev. of aegis denied MU in issues page of his repo, Maybe Auth. Pro will have it :) There is Mauth with MU but still in Alpha so it's unusable * Bitwarden It is always a nice thing to see this app in MU :) best password manager (I know for 2fa app and password managers we don't supposed to look of UI but still) * Forkgram Besically all telegram clients lacks MU, there is workaround with TG monet (which i use) but you have to manually apply theme everytime so inbuilt monet will be great. Nonfoss apps like MDgram have monet theme (but this is foss sub) * VLC Just imagine how nice it would look if most widely used media player follows MU :), let's hope it will get it soon :)

Is it possible to confirm the basic 2F authentication of a google account login on the pixel watch?
no, but Authenticator Pro does the same thing, has a WearOS app and can import a google authenticator qr code
-
what is the best OTP auth tool in 2023?
Authenticator Pro, it has a nice ui and automatic encrypted backups.
-
It's seriously getting out of hand....
So actually there is a cool authenticator out there called "Authenticator Pro". Despite the snarky name it's actually open source and really cool since it has DOWNLOADABLE ENCRYPTED FILE BACKUPS, and it even has icons for most apps. Or you can add the icons yourself with a pull request.

A structured note-taking app for personal use
Just curious, any reason you're using TMarkor instead of Markor? (https://github.com/gsantner/markor/ , https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.gsantner.m...)
Only asking since this was also the editor I ended up settling on in Android, but it seems like TMarkor is just a repackaging of Markor without any references to its forked(?) source.
My requirement was that the repo had to be open source so that I could audit the repo and compile the APK from source, as well as potentially fork it for personal modifications if needed.

Ask HN: Why don’t GitHub readme pages include screenshots?
As other commenters posted, maintaining screenshots is a pain. Especially with software that's regularly changing.
That said, there are more than a few GitHub readmes that contain screens. Sometimes quite a few screens. Here's an example: https://github.com/gsantner/markor

2023 edition: solid ways to have your org setup/plan file in your pocket? (lots of dead ends online)
Use Markor as my org-roam Set up my notes directory as my "home" directory, and set up some templates for creating new files, and set some timestamp formats to match org's. Also has a recursive text search that's good enough for my uses.
-
Any way to add a mobile widget for obsidian?
This is the Markor github repository with links to F-droid: https://github.com/gsantner/markor

Selfhosted obsidian alternative
There are web based VSCode you can run. Or if you push to Github that with give you a good read and a ok write experience. I treat mobile as a read only so I use Markor.

Foam for notes - Any good apps/workflows for using Foam with an Android client?
I already use Markor for some things on Android, so this might work really cleanly, unless I'm misunderstanding Foam's structure.
-
Simple note taking with markdown support
You can also use Syncthing with any kind of local files only editor to make them sync-able. For example with Markor
-
