I used open hab https://www.openhab.org/ for a while and really liked it but had trouble getting it to work with the ZigBee USB stick I bought. So I switched to home assistant and have been on that for a couple years now. Both are solid. I like HA a lot but the one down side for me is I have to pay the 5 bucks a month or whatever it is for the cloud access to control things when I'm not home. Openhab has instructions to set up your own server for remote access.
The GitHub update, including changes, here: https://github.com/openhab/openhab-distro/releases/tag/4.1.0.M1
Project mention: Small, easy to press, IoT button for triggering tasks? Using Tile now but my mother with Arthritis has trouble. | /r/tasker | 2023-06-03Try searching for hacking amazon dash buttons, never did it myself, never had one. https://github.com/Nekmo/amazon-dash
I think we are talking about different machinery (or maybe different levels of control). What I meant is something like https://github.com/SwiCago/HeatPump , but officially supported.
This should be the last release of OpenHAB for 4.4. In theory, it might be possible to revert the bump to Android 5 as it seems to just be because OkHTTP dropped it. But this old release can be a sort of band aid solution for now.
Project mention: Ask HN: What have you built with ESPHome, ESP8266 or similar hardware | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-04-27Brought an inactive home security system onto Home Assistant using the below repository, so I can track everything from smoke alarms to motion, doors, and windows. I swear there's a niche business opportunity in retrofitting all these deactivated systems!

I haven’t done this, but it seems someone has. I found this project which “reads data from the device via USB and transfers the data to a MQTT host. Since most home automation systems support the MQTT protocol, sensor integration should be straightforward.”
