  • grocy

ERP beyond your fridge - Grocy is a web-based self-hosted groceries & household management solution for your home

  • Project mention: I tried and failed to automate my life | news.ycombinator.com | 2024-02-04

https://grocy.info/ should be able to do this for maintenance jobs.

It never quite worked for me either though.

    Things that do work:

  • hass-config

  • espurna

Home automation firmware for ESP8266-based devices

  • Gladys

    A privacy-first, open-source home assistant

  • Project mention: Home Assistant 2023.11 | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-11-02

We are making Gladys Assistant ( https://gladysassistant.com/ ), an open-source smart home software.

It's less "techy" than HA (no YAML files, no CLI), and UI first.

We have way less integrations for now, but are working hard on it.

Don't hesitate to try it and make us some feedback.

  • addons

:heavy_plus_sign: Docker add-ons for Home Assistant (by home-assistant)

  • Project mention: MQTT server (re)setup | /r/MQTT | 2023-06-14

If you have a broker set up in HomeAssistant it’s doesn’t really matter where that broker is as long as HomeAssistant is configured to use it and can connect. It sounds like it was hosted remotely, on paid hosting perhaps. I’ll hazard a guess since you mentioned lights that it’s using zigbee2mqtt so that addon will need to be setup too to use the same broker.

  • alarmo

Easy to use alarm system integration for Home Assistant

  • Project mention: Konnected.io project | /r/homeautomation | 2023-06-04

I just did this with our ancient system. I replaced the keypads with Ring Alarm Keypads v2 which connected to my Home Assistant server via Zwave and stay in sync with the Alarmo custom integration using this Blueprint. It all works great and was much easier than expected to switch over.

  • zmNinja

High performance, cross platform ionic app for Home/Commerical Security Surveillance using ZoneMinder

  • Project mention: Child Pornography on Sale from Hacked Hikvision “Baby Monitor” Cameras | news.ycombinator.com | 2023-07-15

If the camera is ONVIF compatible, and most Hikvision are, it should work with Zoneminder and its mobile Open Source app zmninja.

As for the cloud, if you have a public (not necessarily static) IP and your carrier doesn't filter incoming connections, you can use a dynamic DNS such as DuckDNS.

It is however always advisable to put any camera behind a firewall, so that whatever it could happen (compromised or not, it still runs a closed firmware) it can be restricted to a dedicated physical network with no access to any personal data.

  • uLaunch

:rocket: Custom, open-source qlaunch (Nintendo Switch HOME menu) replacement/reimplementation

  • Project mention: What are your lesser known Homebrew apps that you love that not many people know about? | /r/SwitchPirates | 2023-06-07

uLaunch. For the life of me, I don’t understand how this doesn’t get more universal love. As of right now games load a few seconds slower than the normal menu, but I don’t even mind because the additional features are incredible. Plus, how often do you really switch games, unless you’re having the homies over it’s probably not more than once or twice a day

    Barcode system for Grocy
