  • Glad to join the network very soon, pruned node for now but plans to set up a RasPi soon :)

Consider your next step to be to actually connect your hardware wallet to the node, so you are using your wallet trustlessly and private. There are various ways to do that. The easiest one currently is Specter wallet: https://github.com/cryptoadvance/specter-desktop. It can be used without a hardware wallet as well.
  • Can some explain if I should use a wallet like electrum with a hardware wallet like a ledger?

Although I think I will switch over to recommend Specter wallet in this context, as it allows direct integration with Bitcoin Core, without requiring additional software (like Electrum does): https://github.com/cryptoadvance/specter-desktop

The benefit to having both is you can set up a multisig account using something like Specter so you can distribute the risk of one of the hardware wallet vendors trying to steal your bitcoins.

As a big Electrum Personal Server fan, I found that installing/using Specter is much easier for an average user. It just requires installing Bitcoin Core + Specter on the same machine, changing 1-2 lines in the config of Specter and you can connect your hardware wallet to it, without tinkering with command line, xpubs etc. Specter is quite new and still in development, but I think I'll be recommending it more over EPS after it gets a little bit more testing/polishing. https://github.com/cryptoadvance/specter-desktop

For the actual multi-sig-setup, I think Electrum (https://electrum.org) or Specter Wallet (https://github.com/cryptoadvance/specter-desktop/releases) are hard to beat.

Trezor has an inhouse programm compatible with MacOS. They also both work with various standard-wallet-software, like Electrum (https://electrum.ORG), Wasabi (https://www.wasabiwallet.io/) or Specter (https://github.com/cryptoadvance/specter-desktop/releases).

You can use your hardware wallet WITH your Bitcoin Core node, to maximize your security and privacy/trust minimization. Currently the easiest way to connect your wallet to your Bitcoin Core node is through Specter wallet: https://github.com/cryptoadvance/specter-desktop

What you can try to do is install specter desktop and follow the extra procedures for Linux udev settings, good chance Electrum will work as well then. https://github.com/cryptoadvance/specter-desktop/blob/master/udev/README.md#usage
