Connect synthesizer to MC 101 for effects?
You can't do it without additional gear. However, you can do it with a computer or with something like this (minus the Lego): https://github.com/RowdyVoyeur/m8c-rpi4

Question about headless M8 MIDI output
Now, once you have your host device with Patchbox OS, Raspberry OS or whatever OS and M8C or another client to handle the Teensy, you'll need to route MIDI data (it's basically the same principle as for audio). Patchbox OS already has a fantastic tool for this, which is called amidiauto. You just need to configure it as described here: https://github.com/RowdyVoyeur/m8c-rpi4 Alternatively, you can follow the great advice given by u/Juffin_UA to do the same on Raspberry OS. Looking at your description, sounds like you're only missing this step. So, you should be good to go! Good luck.
