  • Windows 10 VM goes to black screen, then PC freezes - is there a way to fix this? | 2021-03-29
I'm a new Linux user. My setup is a iGPU and a dGPU w/ 2 monitors. I followed this guide and successfully created the scripts mentioned in it (i think), but when I go to create the VM, my main monitor (which is connected to my dGPU) goes black, but my 2nd monitor (which is connected to my iGPU --- and I did enable it to run in my BIOS) remains on. However, a few seconds later my 2nd monitor's screen freezes.

Hello, I've been trying to set up a windows 10 vm with single gpu pass through on Arch Linux using virt manager. I'm following these guides and I set it all up and ran it without adding the pci for the gpu into the xml. It worked fine, so then i went back into the vm settings and added usb hardware the pci hardware for the gpu. I also added the lines

Here's a tutorial. It was the first result on DuckDuckGo, so take it with a hint of salt:
  • NVIDIA Optimus: Cannot modprobe -r nvidia to dynamically bind GPU to vfio-pci driver
However, I'd like to extend this functionality to a Windows 10 VM, to which I intend to passthrough the NVIDIA card. I've been following this guide to get dynamic binding/unbinding of the dGPU to vfio-pci using KVM/QEMU hooks. However, when I try to add the PCIe device to the VM and begin the install, virt-manager hangs on 'Creating domain". Tracing the problem further, I realise that in /etc/libvirt/hooks/qemu.d/win10/prepare/begin/ doesn't complete execution (checked by manually running it, too).

But this guide isn't supposed to do that thou. It should only remove the access when the vm is turned on (from what I understood)
