  • Plan for Release 0.4

https://github.com/Seneca-CDOT/telescope Telescope as the project of the project that's collectively created by Seneca students, I feel that I'm very much obligated to make as much contribution as I could to it. In addition to this, since I spent a lot of time on this project during Release 0.3, I've already gotten more experience with this project, which means that I might find it easier to work on this project than start working on a new project from ground zero.
  • OSD600 - release 0.3 code reviews
    3 projects | dev.to | 20 Nov 2022
For release 0.3 of my course in Open-Source Development, I was tasked with reviewing two PRs to any of the Seneca telescope or IPC144 repositories.
  • OSD600 - Telescope - Testing for feed URLs
    4 projects | dev.to | 20 Nov 2022
Another thing from the review was that allowing a feed URL could break the back end as it would now store a feed URL as a blog URL. So, I investigated this and thanks to some helpful information from alexsam29, I found that the blog URL was only stored in a html url field of the feed model. Further, I did not find any places where that field was being used. In the posts that are shown on telescope, there is also a link to the blog (not the feed but the blog page). However, this link is not rendered based on the blog URL. Instead, a blog feed includes a element which has the blog URL, and that is used to link a post to a blog:

Last week, I worked on an issue for the Seneca telescope project. The sign-up process has a section where a blog URL must be entered. This is then used to get a list of feed URLs which are used to get the posts for a user. This needed to be changed so that a feed URL could be given instead, which would then simply get shown in the feed URL list.
  • Working on Seneca's Open Source Projects
    2 projects | dev.to | 19 Nov 2022
My initial plan was to work on Issue 3639. It seemed to be a lot of work so I asked another developer Tong Liu for help where we would each work on a bit of the Issue. However, we soon realized that both of us couldn't get telescope running locally. We both had the same issue and we were unable to progress until we found a solution. We were contacted by Tue Nguyen who is more experienced with Telescope than us and he offered to help us through our issues. We got into a call together and set up Telescope together so we can understand where we messed up. That's where we found out that the issue was that we modified the configuration file which caused the issues.

  • Reflect on Pull Request code review

Telescope Link: https://github.com/Seneca-CDOT/telescope/pull/3762/files/87742e87eac0b136f6f53b0c38c2679f03317abd This is a PR made by Piotr to modify the documentation to provide a solution for data not showing up after the project is set up. This problem was found by me and Piotr while we are trying to work on the issue 3639. In this code review, Piotr updated the documentation for specific detailed steps we need to do after initializing the project in our local environment. I found at the end of the document he modified, a generalization of the problem and solutions is mentioned, however, the fact that the parser needs to be restarted after db:init was not mentioned, so I made a code review on this trying to amend it.
  • Hacktoberfest - Part 1
    2 projects | dev.to | 30 Oct 2022
Since I had never contributed to the open-source community before, I decided to start with a smaller issue to improve css on a page. The page had a list of dependencies, and my goal was to make the items in the list stand out more:
  • Hacktoberfest week 4
    2 projects | dev.to | 27 Oct 2022
This week My original plan was to work on Telescope on this issue 3639. I haven't given up on this issue yet however i think it will take a lot more work than I initially planed.
  • Hacktoberfest: Fixing a UI bug
    2 projects | dev.to | 22 Oct 2022
As a beginner, looking for a decent project to contribute to requires tremendous searching on my end. For my second PR for Hacktoberfest, I was able to find an Issue to work on in a project known as Telescope.
