(Linux, wine/proton) "Could not locate Skyrim Special Edition"
It uses GameFinder to detect your install, it's not hard coded. First gets your Steam location via the registry and reads the config files from there to locate the games. As long as you installed it in the same Wine prefix it should work.

Alpha Release: EasyNPC (How to combine 50 overhauls with no glitches)
I just went over to the GameFinder page, and they're saying that Steam changed its system earlier this month. Went and got the newest Steam update myself and not getting a repro, but there might be a difference if you installed SkyrimSE after getting that update. Does that sound your like situation, or have you had SSE installed for a long time and/or don't use Steam?
