  • Do people actually prefer Epic Games over steam if so why?
I don't really like either of them a ton honestly. Steam has become bloated for my personal needs and Epic doesn't have anything that grabs my attention. I use Playnite for all my games. I am only ever opening a store to buy something and I can't have too many bad experiences in the 5 - 10 minutes it takes to do that. There isn't much Epic has to offer but I can understand if some people like the UI or a better curated list of games.
  • Half of my desktop shortcuts were massacred in the transition from 1080p to 4k. Is there a fix? | 2021-02-24
Instead you can just install Playnite and not bother with desktop icons for games.
  • Playnite Issues after switching to portable version | 2021-02-24
Hello, from the logs it seems that playnite still tries to load your library from your appdata folder. Have you done everything mentioned in Playnite's wiki correctly ?
  • According to Jim Ryan, Days Gone is coming to PC this Spring | 2021-02-23
I have Steam, GOG, Origin, uPlay, Twitch,, Minecraft, Valorant, RetroArch, Dolphin, etc., having Epic Games on top of that makes no difference to me. Just use something like Playnite if you want all your games in one place (you can even download them from there.)
  • Why does GOG Galaxy use so much more memory that Steam? (See screenshot - 421.2 MB vs 42.6 MB) | 2021-02-23
Specifically talking about Galaxy, it's one of the reasons I don't like it. It uses a separate Python subprocess for each integration, meaning the RAM usage will only get bigger and bigger with each integration you add due to the way it's designed. If you care about memory usage, I recommend using Playnite instead, it has much better memory usage (For me, it usually uses from 100 to 150mb with 3.4k games), has better performance, less limitations and much more features.

  • Lost treasure or Mandela Effect? HELP! | 2021-02-22 looks like a pretty good option to manage the games library. Once you've ripped the ISOs and installed the games, you can even set it up to run specific code (like mounting a specific ISO, running the game in it, and whatever else) so that it's as simple as choosing a game, and the ISO being automatically mounted.
  • Any Way to View Play Time?
Try Playnite, It'll add any game you want as a library and show play times. I love it.

This maybe be overkill but you could try using Playnite to manage your game library, it has support for most major game stores and you can easily change game pages including the icon.

Must be something broken with Origin install, try reinstalling it. If it doesn't help then open new issue
