PiHole does requires both know how to get it working and additional hardware such as a Raspberry Pi (hence the name) but once setup it'll protect your entire home network e.g. all computers, smart phones, smart TV's, other IoT devices etc so well worth the effort imo

I mentioned using LibreElec (a few times) in my earlier post mainly because I prefer to view videos on a larger screen* plus it has the advantage of not tying up my computer and as already mentioned, the YouTube ad-on doesn't show ads but you don't have to use LibreElec to make use of the media application that LibreElec uses which is called Kodi as that exists as an application in its own right and can be installed on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, Apple devices

Also if you're on mobile then installing the DuckDuckGo app could be useful as it blocks a lot of ads & tracking plus it'll work when away from your home network so no need to work out a method of accessing a PiHole when using mobile data
