Best distro to try on a VM?

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/linux4noobs

Our great sponsors
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • Windows Terminal

The new Windows Terminal and the original Windows console host, all in the same place!

  • You may not know this, but Microsoft has overhauled their old terminal, and introduced one called Windows Terminal.

  • winget-cli

WinGet is the Windows Package Manager. This project includes a CLI (Command Line Interface), PowerShell modules, and a COM (Component Object Model) API (Application Programming Interface).

  • It integrates very well with WSL (each tab can be a different linux distro), and has better support for modern day terminal hacking (almost rivaling what most linux x11 terminals are capable of doing). You can install it from Chocolatey which is an alternative package manager to Microsoft's recently released package manager winget, (which they unashamedly ripped the name from the original author of appget)

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.
