  • Tbh the problem with C/C++ build systems are they are not opinionated enough.. They should be full fledged package managers that only focus on proper dependency management with proper version and package flavor support.. They basically only need to know about package defines, flags and their visibility (public, protected, private). If you depend on a package you automatically inherit all public defines and flags, stuff like that. See this example of a complex pure meta data package.
