Plex discover is great if your trying to simplify for the wife. Another thing for 'wife easiness factor' is auto creating collections that you add to the home screen so they can be scrolled through like Netflix. Plex collections article https://support.plex.tv/articles/201273953-collections/ Plex recommendations rows https://support.plex.tv/articles/manage-recommendations/ Auto create collections, overlays and other fun stuff https://github.com/meisnate12/Plex-Meta-Manager
You can automatically push what you watch and rate to Trakt with a Plex plugin - https://github.com/trakt/Plex-Trakt-Scrobbler, this helps create better suggestions.
Then if you haven't already set up https://radarr.video/ + https://sonarr.tv/ , you can add your Trakt lists so as you add something to your watchlist it gets downloaded/monitored for new episodes.

If you know basic python. You can use this script someone made that will pull playlists from trakt and IMDb right into Plex. I modified it a little so instead of making a playlist it adds a tag. Then I make a smart collection that I add to Plex home. It includes any movies (in Plex) that are in the top 50 IMDb most popular and top 50 most watched on trakt. It works well for me https://github.com/pbrink231/plex_top_playlists
Also if you have radarr, I haven't personally set this yet up but looks great. It takes all the collections from radarr and adds them to Plex using the meta manager. That way all the various series get grouped together nicely. https://github.com/jolbol1/RadarrCollectionExporter
