I recently saw a comment recommending this open source software to switch to HDR when enterring (HDR supported) games and back to SDR for the desktop. I'm using this on my Alienware AW3423DW so that I can enjoy HDR1000 in-game without the crappy desktop HDR Automatic Brightness Limiting that affects the desktop. It's easy to set up and has worked flawlessly for me so far!
