Use rclone (Link) and it handles uploading and encrypting for you. If a service does not let you upload incompressible data (because they rely on deduplication for their pricing) they might have issues with that, but all the common cloud services work perfectly fine.
I've set up Jellyfin for my family. I host it myself and downloaded and set up the app on their smart TV.
Bonus: Plex itself doesn’t do a very good job of metadata searching the “homework” folder but this plugin for Plex does the trick.
You can rip your physical cds/dvds/Blu-ray’s to your computer and use something like Handbrake to convert the video files into mp4/mkv/etc. You can do a lot more with handbrake as well but that’s a bit off topic.
