Premiere technically supports VFR footage, but it causes tons of bugs and performance issues. My recommendation is to take your source clips and run them through Handbrake to create new versions of your clips that are H.264 MP4 format with a constant frame rate. Once you’ve got versions of your source clips that are a constant frame rate, swap them into your Premiere project. An easy way to do this (though duplicate your project file first just in case something goes wrong and you need to roll back) is to right click on each clip in the bin, select “Replace Footage”, and then navigate to the new, constant frame rate version of that clip. That should preserve any editing you’ve already done with that specific clip. Do it to all of them that are VFR, and then just for good measure save your project, close it down, and reopen it. From that point on things should go more smoothly. This is a very common issue/process, so feel free to do a little googling for more info. I believe the sidebar/FAQ of this sub also has additional info.

Hey how about you convert it to h265 .mp4 (wayy smaller file size than whatever you've got) and just pop it on google drive and post it here? https://handbrake.fr/ is a good free conversion program.

If Variable Frame Rate (VFR) is indeed the issue, I'd recommend downloading and using Handbrake to convert the footage to a Constant Frame Rate (keeping your native frame rate and resolution, though) and then relinking/replacing your old clips with those new clips. Kind of a pain, but it's the best way around all the glitches that VFR clips will give you.

You need to convert adding the subtitles. Handbrake does the job.

  • Uploading recorded classes to blackboard?
1GB per lecture? Yeah, that's way too large. Try transcoding the video files to reduce their size. This can drastically reduce the file size, and after you find settings that you like it's easy to queue a bunch of videos and have them process while you're away from the computer. Two free options that work on windows/mac/linux are handbrake & avidemux. It's also worth considering whether embedded audio is good enough for some slides.
You should be able to make a mostly-Powerpoint video much smaller. Try using Handbrake (free software from https://handbrake.fr/ ) to compress your video.

If the files are too big/hard to decode, you can re-encode them with Handbrake (use one of the HQ presets with Slow/Slower encoding speed) and maybe reduce the resolution eg. from 1080p to 720p.
  • Anyone else like me here? Whenever I fill one ssd up, I just add another like it's Lego.
You could do that for free with handbrake and from what I've used and heard it's pretty versatile as well!

Depending on how much manual intervention you can tolerate, Handbrake could be useful. It can make MPEG-2 in a MKV file (at least on Windows it can), however Adobe killed MKV support after 2019. You can use ffmpeg to rewrap that into an MOV, though.
  • I have recording of several class lectures (1-2 hr long) in "mov" format. File size of each is around 4-5gb. Is there a way to shrink the file size, any free software to do so.

I tried DaVinci Resolve but gave up very quick as the nodes confused the hell out of me and when I looked I thought the free version was neutred in such a way I couldn't use it for my workload. I thought the older one had limits on what formats and resolution you could import and export. I think they had to be ".mp4". That said, I could convert using other software such as Handbrake. Maybe I should revisit it now I have more time to study.
