  • yomichan

Discontinued Japanese pop-up dictionary extension for Chrome and Firefox.

  • Pick up a Genki Shadowcast. They sell them on Amazon. It's essentially a tiny little capture card but it's intended for playing your games using your laptop as a monitor (of course it works on desktop too.) If you use that you can run the video signal through your computer and you can scan the text in the game with OCR software to read the text and copy it to the clipboard. You can use a clipboard inserter to get that text into the browser and look up words using Yomichan. From there you can even quickly generate Anki flashcards using an extension like AnkiConnect and study / review the words later on after you're done playing for the evening. It makes learning new vocab from games very easy. And if you want to add context to your cards you can easily take screenshots and paste them in also, but beyond that card generation is fully automated - it's as simple as clicking a button in the Yomichan window.
