On my laptop I make extensive use of openSUSE's snapper and the snap-sync script to sync to two external USB drives. Lastly, I wrote a script to clean/expire snapshots on the external volumes.

btrfs has a deduplication tool called bees , which beats ZFS deduplication in terms of speed and RAM requirements by simply ludicrous factors.
Btrfs has had a bunch of issues in the past, but it's proven itself since then (been using it since kernel 5.4 without complaints), so I can't judge it for this. ALL linux filesystems have had data corrupting bugs within the last decade, even ZFS (a pretty severe one even https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/pull/12724 )
