I would personally use Lutris instead for non steam games because it will handle installing the correct dependencies but protontricks is what you're looking for. You'll have to find the proton prefix directory and tell it to install vcrun2015.
Install Lutris, then go to https://github.com/lutris/docs, follow the instructions for "Wine Dependencies" and "Installing Drivers."
Then start installing games. You can go to https://lutris.net and find your game there and click "Install," or you can just open Lutris and go to the left pane and click on Lutris under Sources and search for whatever non-Steam game you want to install. Then click Install.
TKG on his wine-tkg-git/proton-tkg repo:
This is all true, but since we have a few new users in here, I just want to point out a recent notable exception: if you play League of Legends, GE just recently pushed a specific build that (supposedly) fixes the annoying update bug. Additionally, if you want to suffer through playing LoL on Linux, come to /r/leagueoflinux. This game can be such a pain in the ass to play on Linux that it needs its own subreddit just so we can effectively disseminate info, but it is completely playable if you're willing to put up with some jank.
