A little help with Proton, New to Linux Gaming

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/linux_gaming

Our great sponsors
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • protontricks

A wrapper that does winetricks things for Proton enabled games, requires Winetricks.

  • I would personally use Lutris instead for non steam games because it will handle installing the correct dependencies but protontricks is what you're looking for. You'll have to find the proton prefix directory and tell it to install vcrun2015.

  • docs

  • Install Lutris, then go to https://github.com/lutris/docs, follow the instructions for "Wine Dependencies" and "Installing Drivers."

  • InfluxDB

Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale. Get real-time insights from all types of time series data with InfluxDB. Ingest, query, and analyze billions of data points in real-time with unbounded cardinality.

  • lutris

    Lutris desktop client

  • Then start installing games. You can go to https://lutris.net and find your game there and click "Install," or you can just open Lutris and go to the left pane and click on Lutris under Sources and search for whatever non-Steam game you want to install. Then click Install.

  • wine-tkg-git

The wine-tkg build systems, to create custom Wine and Proton builds

  • TKG on his wine-tkg-git/proton-tkg repo:

  • wine-ge-custom

My custom build of wine, made to use with lutris. Built with lutris's buildbot.

  • This is all true, but since we have a few new users in here, I just want to point out a recent notable exception: if you play League of Legends, GE just recently pushed a specific build that (supposedly) fixes the annoying update bug. Additionally, if you want to suffer through playing LoL on Linux, come to /r/leagueoflinux. This game can be such a pain in the ass to play on Linux that it needs its own subreddit just so we can effectively disseminate info, but it is completely playable if you're willing to put up with some jank.

  • WorkOS

The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS. The APIs are flexible and easy-to-use, supporting authentication, user identity, and complex enterprise features like SSO and SCIM provisioning.
