The RL side of this doesn't really touch StS code. I use a (very bad) python clone that's hooked up to the openai gym interface, and the RL library I use drives the game through that.
Separately, I'm making a headless python clone of the game. It's very incomplete, and if I was starting from scratch, I'd probably try /u/boardengineer88 's LudicrousSpeed first.
