If you are willing to put in some DIY work, the far better option would be something like a Raspberry Pi or other low-powered computer running Kodi or something similar. Kodi does run as an app on other platforms including Android TV (and possibly even a Fire TV stick, but I'm not sure what the current sideloading situation looks like), but the best way to use it is probably running it on your own hardware with Linux. Using open-source software like this is going to provide a much more private viewing experience, and their privacy is actually verifiable which is very important.
Roku collects quite a bit, see section B of their privacy policy for starters. Amazon is probably even worse, to be fair. You could try and block this data sharing with something like https://pi-hole.net (highly recommended), but if you don't control the device it's a bit of an uphill battle.
