  • I do something similar to u/Achie72 but I'll share my code here for reference too. I keep all my levels in a levels.lua file stored as strings. Next my load_map_data function picks apart the string and builds out the map. That function also references a tilemap table that stores the sprite or behavior to replace each character with.
