I'd use the amplitude (Lucid Vision call's it Intensity) of the ToF camera, with 850nm laser printer black toner works great for creating the required contrast. I'd print out the checkerboard pattern ( https://github.com/opencv/opencv/blob/master/doc/pattern.png ) and attach it to a ridge surface. Then capture intensity frames from the ToF camera and RGB frames from the other camera at the same time.
