For DE at least, native Steam for Linux + Steam play / Proton is the most straightforward way to play on Linux. I think most macOS users rely on Crossover instead, but I'm not sure.
Here's the proton issue about it. Doesn't look that unsolvable. I'm optimistic that we can play again with an experimental proton within a few days.
