reMy and RCU are the best alternative desktop clients. The former has a focus on notebooks, while the latter is focused on ease-of-use and does it all (templates/notebooks/wallpaper/and much more). Both use their own rendering engine for custom PDF export options. Neither installs anything to your tablet, so they usually work through software updates. (Disclaimer: I am the author of RCU).
Although RCU has a virtual printer, for printing from any system application, this can also be accomplished by installing evidlo/remarkable_printer. It is a fantastic piece of software that turns your tablet into a network printer, so you don't have to rely on reMarkable's limited and flaky plugins.
You can bi-directionally sync documents with hersel/rmirro. I've not used it, but have heard great things about it.
reStream is a fantastic way to get live video of your reMarkable's screen without signing up for the reMarkable Cloud (which flakes out often with LiveView).
