Ok, pretend I just got out of prison and someone handed me a laptop that 5 minutes ago had Linux installed on it. Docker jellyfin container image for running jellyfin, accessable remotely, *while* VPN is running (Nord paid) and downloading at the same time

  • tailscale

The easiest, most secure way to use WireGuard and 2FA.

  • Well now that you’re more familiar with Docker since you got the Jellyfin container running, some of the stuff from our previous thread might be easier to work through. In regards to the reverse proxy thing, Docker SWAG, which I wrote about before, is just one way to do it, which I thought was relatively easy. There are plenty of ways to do it. You could also not use a reverse proxy at all and use Tailscale, which is a VPN setup.

  • gluetun

VPN client in a thin Docker container for multiple VPN providers, written in Go, and using OpenVPN or Wireguard, DNS over TLS, with a few proxy servers built-in.

  • I don’t know another way to split-tunnel your VPN unless there’s already a setting on your VPN app that will allow you to do that. The only other way I know is Gluetun, but that is a Docker container. You’ll have to wait for other people to give you answers if those don’t work for you.

  • ngrok

Expose your localhost to the web. Node wrapper for ngrok. (by bubenshchykov)

  • I completely forgot that another thing you might want to look into is ngrok. It’s an incredibly easy way to make Jellyfin available remotely. There are limitations to this on free tier, though. I would get issues loading menus sometimes but the actual stream would be just fine. Another downside is the actual link to connect is very long and randomized. Might work well for you, though. I used it for a while until I set up a reverse proxy.

NOTE: The number of mentions on this list indicates mentions on common posts plus user suggested alternatives. Hence, a higher number means a more popular project.
