I've used Linux Mint for around 6 years now. I think it's great, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. It's simple and works and has enough installed to get you off the ground running after install. That being said there are plenty of options out there. Some good references to get games working you need will be: ProtonDB, for checking how games work with or without tweaks using Proton. Heroic Games Launcher for launching games from GOG and Epic with a nice interface. Lutris can be used for getting games outside of Steam to work nicely on Linux. GamingOnLinux beginners guide to using Proton.
