I‘m not super familiar with Leviton switches and outlets, but it looks like there is a Homebridge plugin for them. I realize you said you wanted to stay away from that but using the existing outlets & switches it may be the only option but I can’t say for certain.
For outlets, I personally use Shelly 2.5 relays and this firmware to easily get them into HomeKit without Homebridge or any coding knowledge, but to each their own.
