What is the best software for me for Aerospace Engineering?

This page summarizes the projects mentioned and recommended in the original post on /r/AerospaceEngineering

Our great sponsors
  • InfluxDB - Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale
  • WorkOS - The modern identity platform for B2B SaaS
  • SaaSHub - Software Alternatives and Reviews
  • FreeCAD

This is the official source code of FreeCAD, a free and opensource multiplatform 3D parametric modeler.

  • Before spending any money on software, I think you would be best served by learning some fundamentals on how they work. Things like idealization of properties and boundary conditions are critical when performing solutions in any of those things (garbage in = garbage out). I recommend getting a free cad package (https://www.freecad.org is a good option) and then making some basic tools in Python or even Excel to solve basic beam and plate solutions.

  • OpenFOAM-dev

    OpenFOAM Foundation development repository

  • InfluxDB

Power Real-Time Data Analytics at Scale. Get real-time insights from all types of time series data with InfluxDB. Ingest, query, and analyze billions of data points in real-time with unbounded cardinality.

  • CfdOF

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for FreeCAD based on OpenFOAM solver

  • For a completly free package you can use OpenFOAM for CFD (and bit of FEA) and FreeCAD for CAD while I dont know how good it is. It also has built-in FEM workbench I believe. And there is something called CfdOF (https://github.com/jaheyns/CfdOF) it combines freeCAD with OpenFOAM but again I didn't used it so I am not really informed.
