Why is the web not as a platform for games?

You even have the option to use C/C++ with SDL2/OpenGL and compile for the web using Emscripten. For a 2d example, I made this recently https://arguscypher.itch.io/dungeon-sons (uses OpenGL and has networked multiplayer). Same with 3D, WASM is good enough that most games wont suffer. Now you wont get access to the latest OpenGL features but then again do you really need those?
