gphotos-cdp
This program uses the Chrome DevTools Protocol to drive a Chrome session that downloads your photos stored in Google Photos.
This doesn't download the pictures in originale quality but a lower resolution of it. As the developer notes in one of their issues: https://github.com/gilesknap/gphotos-sync/issues/119
You could also use RClone. It has Google Photos and Google Drive storage providers, and you can install it as a single executable. A simple user defined script in Control Panel - Task Scheduler, running at a specific interval can backup or sync your photos locally:
There is a workaround that but it's not the cleanest solution: https://github.com/perkeep/gphotos-cdp
And you can run it as a Docker as well: https://github.com/JakeWharton/docker-gphotos-sync
