Not the OP, but I separate them and run WLED on the ESP so I can use the LEDs for lighting automatons and notifications even when the TV is off. The various forks of Hyperion work well for a TV Ambilight-esque setup, but don't have nearly as many general purpose lighting options as something like WLED.
The majority of the time, Home Assistant connects to WLED for Adaptive Lighting, accent lighting, and visual notifications. When I watch a TV show/movie, Hyperion "takes control" of the WLED instance, and does its thing. I also have overrides within HA that can temporarily disable the Hyperion control so I can get LED notifications mid-movie if I want.
