gamescope
Discontinued SteamOS session compositing window manager [Moved to: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/gamescope] (by Plagman)
It's true, it's going to drag on for years. But Wayland is creeping into the mainstream. It has been the default on Gnome for a good while and Gnome Wayland is going to be the default in Ubuntu's new release. KDE is a bit behind but also on it, promising "production level quality" until the end of this year. At the same time a new class of compositors without any X heritage is emerging around the wlroots library.
waiting for some of these to be implemented, if they ever will. i use awesomewm now, cant live without the ability to split my screen into virtual ones because ultrawide and haven't found a wayland wm that has even somewhat similar ability.
Don't you use KMS for that?
And idk, it seems like there are even multiple protocols here.
It mostly lacks tiling features so I'm not sure if it works for you, but I like to go around recommending my favorite compositor Wayfire. Since it's a spiritual successor to Compiz it has a lot of eye candy.
Haven't done any gaming in wayland yet since my main rig is nvidia, but valve's gamescope might have already fixed this
